How do I retire my American Flag?
We get this question a lot, and we understand that there is a lot of mixed information out there. We're here to clarify things for you! Once you've discovered your flag is frayed and faded it's a good idea to think about disposal.
Originally, the U.S. flag code recommended burning the flag, which made sense when most flags were made from easily burned materials. However, today's flags are often made from nylon and other synthetic materials which are not safe to burn. That's why we follow the guidance of the major flag manufacturers and do not recommend burning your flag anymore. Flag retirement now can now include burial or ceremonial disassembly.
